Social Events

The social events for August 31 and September 1, 2010 are included in the registration fees. Tickets sold separately to social guests. For more information, please visit the Registration page.Registration deadline: August 16 (to avoid additional late fees).

If you have already registered to the symposium and would like to register an individual (i.e. spouse, child/ren) to accompany you to any of the ISCHS social events, please follow these easy instructions:

  1. To register your guest/s, please visit the Registration page to complete registration form
  2. Under NAME OF REGISTERED SOCIAL GUEST, please type: Self and the name of the person being accompanied. Example: Self (Tommy Trojan guest)
  3. If item does not apply, please type: N/A (otherwise, system will not let you proceed with payment)
  4. Skip the registration fee box and go to FEE SCHEDULE FOR SOCIAL GUESTS and complete
  5. Complete credit card information
  6. Click PROCEED WITH SECURE PAYMENT
  7. You will immediately receive a receipt confirmation and an e-mail will shortly follow

August 31 – Half day excursion

Getty CenterVisit the Getty Center in Brentwood, Los Angeles, California which is one of the two locations of the J. Paul Getty Museum. The museum’s permanent collections include paintings, drawings, sculpture, decorative arts and photographs. It is also known for its architecture, gardens and views overlooking Los Angeles.

David FosbergThen visit the city of Malibu which is a 21-mile (34 km) strip of Pacific coastline; a beachfront community famous for its sandy beaches and for being the home of countless movie stars and end our sightseeing at Gladstone’s Malibu Restaurant for wonderful dinner by the beach.

September 1 – Banquet and awards dinner

Walt Disney Concert HallThe society will host its banquet and awards dinner at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown Los Angeles, California which is the fourth hall of the Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County (formerly known as the Los Angeles Music Center).

About Pasadena:

Pasadena City HallPasadena, a suburban city with beautiful natural surrounding and enriched culture, is located 10 miles (15 km) northeast of downtown Los Angeles, a 45 min drive from the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The city’s history dates back to 1771 with the arrival of the Spaniards and the establishment of the San Gabriel Mission. Pasadena is famous for the Tournament of Roses, the worldly renowned parade on the New Year’s Day which began in 1898 and Rose Bowl Game, a 97 year old tradition of annual American College football game between Gig 10 and Pacific 10 conference representatives, again played on the New Year’s Day.

Norton Simon MuseumThe city is also a home for Norton Simon Museum known internationally for its one of the most remarkable private art collections, including those by Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne and Paul Gauguin. Complementing these works are Auguste Rodin’s monumental bronze sculptures, which are displayed in the Museum’s front garden. Pasadena is also well known for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory which sent to all over the world amazing pictures of the Mars captured by the NASA’s exploration spacecraft Rover. Within a 5 min drive from Pasadena, Huntington Library is located in an adjacent city of San Marino. The library contains an extensive collection of rare books and manuscripts, including a Gutenberg Bible, the Ellesmere manuscript of Chaucer, and thousands of historical documents about Abraham Lincoln. It is the only library in the world with the first two quartos of Hamlet; it holds the manuscript of Benjamin Franklin’s autobiography, the first seven drafts of Henry David Thoreau’s Walden, John James Audubon’s Birds of America, and many other great treasures.

California Institute of TechnologyPasadena is also academically blessed with the California Institute of Technology, the renowned premier scientific institution whose faculty and alumni garnered 31 Nobel prizes to date.
